Heading for Home

Home! It's a word that evokes a powerful sense of longing. We talk about being homesick. After we've been away for awhile we know how good it feels to be home again. When we want someone to feel comfortable and welcome we invite them to "make themselves at home." At it's heart, the idea of home has less to do with place than it does with a sense of belonging. Home is where the heart is.

Share the Feast

On the opening night of the 2007 General Assembly of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), held July 21-25 in Fort Worth, Daisy Machado (Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean of Lexington Theological Seminary) challenged the 6,000 people in attendance to live lives of spiritual audacity. The phrase caught my attention and captured my imagination. In contrast to the typical ways in which we so often "play it safe," what might it mean to be spiritually audacious? In answer to that question, Dr. Machado invited us to be guided not by fear, but by a sense of God's radical abundance. We are called to live in this abundance with a sense of generous hospitality. In other words we are called to live as if we really do believe that there is enough, and more than enough, for everyone.
